ATLANTA – The LaGrange College Panthers have played 15 games this season, and former Callaway Cavalier Tavin Thompson has a hit in each of them.

Thompson had two hits in Tuesday’s road game against Oglethorpe, running his hitting streak to 15 games, and he has a batting average of better than .400 to lead the team in that category.

Cain Sauls added a home run during Tuesday’s game, but that wasn’t enough to keep the Panthers from losing 7-6.

Oglethorpe was trailing by a run when it pushed two runs across in the bottom of the ninth to win it.

Sauls, who finished with two hits, hit his home run in the top of the first inning to give LaGrange College a 1-0 lead, but Oglethorpe responded with a single run in the bottom of the first and four more runs in the third inning to go ahead 5-1.

The Panthers answered with three runs in the fourth inning to get within a run.

Blane Swift had the big hit in the inning, a two-run triple to make it a 5-4 game.

The Panthers then scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to go up 6-5, and that’s the way it remained until the bottom of the ninth when Austin Ferlita won it with a two-run single.

LaGrange College (9-6) will play Piedmont on Friday and Saturday in a USA South series.

The teams will play one game on Friday at 7 p.m., and a doubleheader on Saturday at 3 p.m., and all of the games will be played at the Perfect Game LakePoint Complex in Emerson.

The Panthers are 1-2 in the conference after dropping two of three at Covenant last weekend.
