COLUMBUS – The LaGrange Grangers are getting another shot at Columbus.

The two tennis rivals have met twice this season, and it has been Columbus coming out on top both times by a slim 3-2 margin.

LaGrange and Columbus will play for the third time today, and the Region 1-AAAAA championship will be on the line.

LaGrange won a pair of matches on Wednesday to earn a title shot, and it will play Columbus at 2:30 p.m. at the Cooper Creek Tennis Center in Columbus.

In order to win the region title, LaGrange needs to figure out a way to win one more match than it did in the previous meetings with Columbus.

“I think they’re ready to play,” LaGrange coach Kenny Moore said. “You just have to get one turned, and keep the two that we’ve been getting.”

Also today, LaGrange’s girls’ team will play Harris County at 1 p.m. for third place.

On Wednesday, LaGrange’s boys’ team won by forfeit against Hardaway before beating Harris County 3-2 to reach the title round.

Harris County won two of the three singles matches, and LaGrange won one singles match and both doubles matches to get the hard-fought win.

LaGrange’s girls’ team beat Shaw 3-2 in its first match before falling 3-2 to Northside.

“Our girls are clearly in a rebuilding year,” Moore said. “I’m just so proud of our young girls. They’re getting better and better every time we play.”
