A good Samaritan called police just after 9 p.m. on Sunday after witnessing a white truck and trailer aggressively pull out of the driveway at the B & D Roofing Company near Lukken Industrial Boulevard and Hamilton Road that almost struck him head on.

The victim told officers the trailer being pulled did not have any lights on and the chain that attaches to the bumper was not secured. The chain was creating sparks as it was being pulled down the roadway, according to the police report.

The driver followed the truck to a residence in the 3000 block of Hamilton Road, which LaGrange police and Troup County sheriff’s deputies checked.

No one was in the truck, officers said. But it appeared the vehicle had overheated and there was damage to the back of the truck and the trailer.

Police found four rolls of roofing material in the trailer valued at $3,000.

Officers are still investigating the incident.
