HOGANSVILLE – The Callaway Cavaliers, after an impressive opening-night win over LaGrange, have climbed to fourth in Class AA in this week’s Associated Press high-school poll, which was voted on by members of the Georgia Sports Writers Association.

In Class AA, Fitzgerald was ranked first, although Benedictine is just one vote behind, and they both received eight first-place votes.

Vidalia is ranked third, and Callaway and Jefferson County round out the top five.

Jefferson County and Brooks County are next, and Heard County, which is in Region 5-AA along with Callaway, is seventh.

Dodge County, Model and Rabun County completed the top 10, and one of the teams receiving votes is Spencer, which is also in Region 5-AA.

In Class AAAA, Cartersville is ranked first, and it claimed all 16 of the first-place votes.

Sandy Creek, which along with Cartersville is in Region 5-AAAA with LaGrange and Troup, is eighth in the poll.

Grayson is ranked first in Class AAAAAAA, Houston County is tops in Class AAAAAA, Kell is first in Class AAAAA, Calhoun leads the way in Class AAA, and Eagle’s Landing is atop the Class A rankings.
