LPD: Investigators arrest 2 suspects in Alabama

LaGRANGE – Investigators with the LaGrange Police Department have arrested two men and continue  searching for more suspects in connection with the shooting death of a man just before 11 p.m. Saturday night.

Daven Tucker was gunned down at a home in the 200 block of Newnan Street, investigators said.

Tucker was rushed to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center where he later died from his wounds, investigators said.

Witnesses told officers the gunmen arrived in two separate vehicles and began shooting towards the house on Newnan Street, according to a police report.

Both cars then fled the scene, witnesses said.

Around 9 a.m. on Sunday, investigators received a tip the suspects involved in Tucker’s murder were staying at the Red Roof Inn at 3645 55th Street in Valley, Ala., a report said.

LPD investigators along with officers from the Valley Police Department went to the motel and found several potential suspects, according to a news release.

Investigators arrested Coty Green, 21, of LaGrange and Charles Loveless, 18, of West Point and charged them each with one count of murder, the release said.

Green and Loveless are being held in the Chambers County Jail awaiting extradition to Troup County.

The Newnan Street incident was the second drive by shooting LPD police responded to Saturday night.

Just after 10 p.m., cars carrying multiple suspects entered a parking lot at the corner of North Greenwood Street and Hunnicutt Place and began firing into a crowd of people gathered in Granger Park, investigators said.

No one was hurt in the incident but two vehicles were struck by bullets, according to investigators.

Witnesses told police the suspects were last seen driving south on North Greenwood Street.

Lt. Dale Strickland confirmed investigators believe the same suspects are connected to both incidents on Saturday.

The drive by shootings may also be connected to a murder in West Point on May 31.

D’Vonte Tucker, 23, was shot in the head in the 1200 block of East 14th Street in West Point and died the next day at the University of Alabama hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, according to Troup County Coroner Jeff Cook.

D’Vonte and Daven Tucker are brothers, confirmed LPD Sgt. William Nelson.

According to Strickland, members of the Tucker family were at Granger Park and at the home on Newnan Street on Saturday night.

LPD investigators are working to identify more suspects.

More charges are also pending against Green and Loveless, investigators said.

Anyone with information on any of these cases is asked to contact the LaGrange Police Department at 706-883-2603 or Troup County Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000. Callers may remain anonymous.
