Season ends for Lady Cavaliers

DUBLIN – The best season in the history of Callaway’s girls’ soccer program came to a close with a loss in the second round of the state tournament on Tuesday.

East Dublin had a 2-1 halftime lead, and it outscored Callaway 2-0 in the second half to take the 4-1 victory.

Callaway (12-7-2) was trailing 2-0 in the first half when Brianne Vaught scored on an assist from Kelly Carlisle.

Callaway kept pushing, and it nearly notched the tying goal with five minutes left in the half.

East Laurens was able to put the game away in the second half and end Callaway’s season.

Callaway, which finished second in Region 5-AA, was coming off the first state-tournament victory in school history.

Callaway overwhelmed Rockmart 6-3 to get the historic win.
