Tom Gore announces his candidacy for spot 1A on the LaGrange City Council. Gore was born in LaGrange and has been back in the city since 1985 after completing his medical education. He has practiced cardiology in LaGrange since 1985.

Gore has been married to his wife Selma Middlebrooks Gore for 40 years this year. The couple has three children and four grandchildren, who all live in Georgia. Gore’s mother is 96 years old and is  able to live in her home with some assistance. His father preceded him as a council member, serving for 26 years until 1990.

Gore first served on council for two terms 2001-2009. He did not choose to run again in 2009 but was re-elected to the same seat in 2013. Assuming Gore completes his next term, he will have served 16 years on the city council. He believes the city has had excellent council members, excellent mayors, and excellent city staff and that we are fortunate the city is financially solid. Gore said he hope to continue working on all issues to help citizens all through the community. He said not every decision pleases everyone, but he will try to do what is best overall for the entire city and promises to try to listen carefully and be fair in his voting decisions. He said the city needs to lift up the parts of our community that lag behind and continue to strengthen all areas. Gore believes economic development would help all citizens, and that job creation and infrastructure improvement would allow everyone the opportunity to better themselves.

Each candidate running for political office in Troup County can submit a free announcement of candidacy to the LaGrange Daily News. The announcement must be 300 words or less and should discuss biographical information, experience, qualifications and platform issues. A photo can be included but is not a requirement.
