At least one gunshot was fired at a DeKalb County elementary school Tuesday, but no one was injured and the gunman is in custody.
“Shooter apprehended; all kids safe and accounted for,” interim Superintendent Michael Thurmond told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution just before 2 p.m.
He said a 25-year-old man was arrested. The incident happened at Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy, an elementary school at 2162 2nd Avenue, around 1 p.m.
The alleged gunman entered the school and talked to a clerk. The man, who was dressed in black and had an AK-47, surrendered peacefully after being confronted by police officers, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Parents can pick up their children at the Walmart at I-20 and Gresham Road. Parents must bring photo identification.
