They’re off and running.
The LaGrange High cross country team kicked off a new season on Saturday with a strong performance in the Bob Blastow Early Bird meet in Douglasville.
A trio of LaGrange runners earned top-10 finishes, including Sam Bowie and Andrew Coggins, who were both in the top five.
Bowie finished the 3.1-mile race with a time of 16 minutes even, good enough for a fourth-place finish.
Coggins was eight seconds behind Bowie, and he finished fifth.
Also for the Grangers, Garrett Cashwell (17:24) was 34th, and Jonathan Pelham (17:36) finished 46th.
LaGrange’s other runners were Gabe White (19:01), Hiram Haro-Oropeza (19:29), Ben Anderson (20:27) and Dakota Crowson (20:27).
For the Lady Grangers, Sarah Bearden began her senior season with a sixth-place finish with a time of 19:53.
Alaina Tomlinson (22:18) was next in 49th place, and Ellie Doerr (23:22) was 66th.
LaGrange’s other runners were Violeta Haro-Oropeza (26:16), Colleen Riggs (27:23), Audrey Tomlinson (27:46) and Brooke Yarbrough (28:12).
Callaway’s teams also participated in the Blastow meet, with Sierra Jones (24:41) coming through with the top finish in 48th place.
Also running for the Lady Cavaliers were Taylor Townsend (25:06), Mackenzie Scott (26:00) and Devin Scott (26:55).
For the Callaway boys’ team, Ethan Rowlett (21:17) had the top time, and he was followed by Chase Drake (21:38), Tyler Neese (22:43), Thomas Spader (23:12), Tyler Gholston (23:22) and Timothy Neal (24:12).
