Herring Davis Jr.

Herring Davis, Jr. passed away Thursday at his home in Stone Mountain, Georgia.


He was born on November 28, 1940 in Pine Mountain, Georgia to the late Herring Davis, Sr. and to the late Johnnie Mae Broughton Davis. At an early age, Herring accepted Jesus Christ into his heart, and was baptized at Bethany Baptist Church.


Herring attended Ethel W. Kight High School. Shortly afterwards, he married Annie Clara Brooks and to this union one girl and four sons were born


He was a skilled-labor contractor for nearly four decades and was no stranger to work. He consistently and successfully completed various assignments over the years.


Survivors include his children, Mr. Reginald Davis (Tammy) of Summerville, South Carolina; Deacon Roderick Davis of LaGrange, Georgia; Mr. Terrance Davis of LaGrange, Georgia; Elder Dexter Davis (Donna) of LaGrange, Georgia; a devoted daughter and son-in-law, Minister Kimberly Davis Chambers (Michael) of Stone Mountain, Georgia; Mr. John Davis (Ruthie) of Decatur, Georgia; two aunts: Mrs. Bessie Broughton Fitzpatrick and Mrs. Ella Mae Broughton; seven siblings: Deloris Haynes (Jesse) of Atlanta, Georgia; Dorothy Ann Ogletree of Augusta, Georgia; Ronald Davis (Peggy) of Decatur, Georgia; Patricia Leslie (Apostle Raymond Leslie) of Houma, Louisiana; Curtis Davis, Sr. (European) of Pine Mountain, Georgia; Samuel Davis (Christine) of Greenville, Georgia; and Dianne Moss (Lee) of Newnan, Georgia; three brothers-in-law:Deacon Johnnie Brooks of Atlanta, Georgia; Bishop Henry Lee Tucker of Pine Mountain, Georgia; and Deacon Jobe Ponder of Atlanta, Georgia; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Ruby Davis of Pine Mountain, Georgia; 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and a special great-granddaughter, Deonna Walker, who brought him joy and laughter; many nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and friends who loved him very much.


The Funeral Service will be Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 11:00 AM at New Communiuty Church with Minister Kimberly Davis-Chambers officig. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery, Highway 27, Pine Mountain.
