The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has opened boat ramps in seven day-use facilities, after the ramps were closed Monday in response to the government shutdown.
Chief Ranger David Barr said the corps received “new guidance” from the corps’ Mobile, Ala., district office allowing them to reopen the ramps as of Friday.
“These areas will only be open for boat launching. Restrooms and picnic facilities will continue to be closed during the shutdown period,” Barr said. “Leased areas have remained open for public use: Pyne Road Park, Southern Harbor Marina, Highland Marina Resort, Cross Roads Park and Riverside Park.”
Boat ramps will be open at:
Yellow Jacket Park
Glass Bridge Park on the boat ramp side.
Because many maintenance and public safety personnel have been placed on furlough during the ongoing government shutdown, all toilet buildings, picnic areas and other facilities remain closed, the corps said. Visitors using the boat launching areas listed above are asked to remove their trash when leaving the area.
