The Callaway Cavaliers are region champs.
Needing a win over Douglass on Friday to secure a second straight Region 4-AAA title, the Cavaliers made it happen with ease.
Callaway soared to a 41-0 lead at the half, and it added another touchdown in the second half to win 48-7.
Callaway (8-1 overall) improved to 6-0 in the region, and it has locked up the region’s number one seed for the state playoffs.
Callaway finishes the regular season with a game at Rockmart next week, and it will be back home the following week for the first round of the state playoffs.
LAFAYETTE CHRISTIAN: The Cougars won a thriller in the opening round of the state playoffs.
Facing Praise Academy, the Cougars got a late touchdown, and they made a defensive stand to preserve a 39-38 victory in the Independent Christian Schools of Georgia and Alabama Athletic Association playoffs.
The Cougars were trailing 38-32 when they got the ball late.
Matt Brown completed a long pass to Sam Marshall to put the ball deep in Praise Academy territory, and Brown followed with a touchdown run to tie it.
Jeremy Fain then converted the extra point to give the Cougars the lead.
Praise Academy made it to the Lafayette Christian 6-yard line with seconds remaining, but a player was tackled on the 2-yard line as time ran out.
