GREENVILLE - The Troup Tigers tried to make a game of it.
Trailing by 14 points heading into the fourth quarter of Friday’s game against Taylor County, the Tigers got as close as six points after a nice run, but they were unable to sustain that momentum.
Taylor County was able to hang on for a 62-52 victory in a first-round game in a holiday tournament in Meriwether County.
Jamal Wilkerson led Troup with 18 points, with 14 of those points coming in the second half.
Tre Sullivan added 11 points, and Quaydo Florence contributed nine points.
The Tigers were up 13-10 after the first period, but they went cold in the second quarter, and Taylor County was ahead 28-18 at the half.
Taylor County went up by as many as 18 points in the third period, but Troup finshed the quarter on a 6-0 run to get within 12.
After Taylor County went ahead 49-35 early in the fourth quarter, Troup went on a 8-0 run to get within six.
Taylor County responded with a 6-0 run before Sullivan scored off of an offensive rebound to get the Tigers back within 10, but that’s as close as they came the rest of the way.
