January 10, 2014

On Jan. 15 at 6:15 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church Sanctuary, Dr. Doug DeCelle will present a 45 minute illustrated talk titled: “Pope Francis and the Mainstreaming of Liberation Theology.”

Very rapidly after his consecration, Pope Francis has captured the imagination of the entire Christian world with his evident compassion, spirituality and concern for the well-being of all the world’s peoples, especially the poor. His early leadership of the Catholic Church has already distinguished him as a significant change agent for Christianity in general and has attracted the attention of the non-church world, evidenced by Time Magazine’s Person of the Year recognition.

DeCelle’s talk will be appreciative of Pope Francis and will offer a capsule introduction of Liberation Theology. Everyone is invited. Additionally, First Presbyterian Church offers a family dinner for a small charge beginning at 5 p.m. to which all are invited if they would like to eat before the program.
