Games postponed again

Another day, another round of canceled games.

The basketball teams from Callaway, LaGrange and Troup had their games canceled on Tuesday because of the winter storm.

Those teams had hoped to return to the court today, but that’s not going to happen.

Schools in Troup County won’t be in session today, and that means there won’t be any sporting events.

So the games involving the local teams will have to be made up later.

With two weeks remaining in the regular season, LaGrange and Troup each have two games to make up, while Callaway will have to make up three games since it won’t be able to play on Saturday either.

LaGrange and Troup are going to be able to play their Saturday games, but Callaway will be taking another day off.

Callaway was set to host Douglass on Saturday, but those games will also be postponed.

Teams in the Atlanta public-school system are not allowed to play games until Monday.

Not only have the local teams not played games, but they also haven’t been able to practice because of a school-system policy that prohibits athletic activities on days when school is canceled because of the weather.

“I wanted some rest for my girls, but we didn’t need this much rest,” Troup girls coach Carla Thornton said. “We have things we need to work on.”

On Saturday, Troup’s teams will be on the road against Fayette County, while LaGrange’s teams will host Sandy Creek.

For Callaway, the cancellations mean next week will be incredibly busy.

Beginning with Monday’s make-up games against Douglass, the Callaway teams will play five games in six days.

Callaway will host Douglass on Monday and Central-Carroll on Tuesday before going on the road to face Haralson County on Wednesday.

On Feb. 7, the Callaway teams will be on the road, with the Lady Cavaliers facing Coretta S. King, and the Cavaliers playing B.E.S.T. Academy.

Callaway finishes the week on Feb. 8 with home games against Jackson.

“It’ll be a hectic week for us,” Callaway girls’ coach Deyano Martin said. “We’ll just go out there and play hard.”
