It’s tournament time.

The road to the state playoffs will begin today for the basketball teams from LaGrange and Troup, who will be competing in the Region 5-AAAA tournament.

All four teams will need to win their games today to keep their seasons alive.

Each team from LaGrange and Troup will need to win two games in the region tournament to make it to state.

Today’s boys’ games will be played at LaGrange High, and the girls’ games will be played at Alexander.

At LaGrange, first up at 6 p.m. will be sixth-seeded Shaw taking on seventh-seeded Troup.

At 7:30 p.m., fifth-seeded LaGrange will play eighth-seeded Columbus.

The winners of the two games will advance to the second round on Wednesday.

Shaw won both regular-season meetings with Troup, but both games were competitive.

In the first meeting, Shaw edged Troup 64-58.

In the rematch Friday night in Columbus, Shaw won 79-64, but it was a one-point game with about a minute left.

LaGrange and Columbus also played two tight ballgames during the regular season.

In the first game, LaGrange held on for a 53-47 victory in Columbus.

In the second game, LaGrange had to rally from a huge late deficit to beat Columbus 69-66.

At Alexander today, seventh-seeded LaGrange will play sixth-seeded Shaw, and eighth-seeded Troup will play fifth-seeded Alexander.

LaGrange and Shaw split their two regular-season games, and both games were decided by two points.

In the first game, LaGrange won 47-45 at Shaw, and in the second meeting, Shaw won 58-56.

Alexander has beaten Troup twice, and both games were one-sided.

In the first game, Alexander won 61-39, and it won the second game 66-46.

Callaway’s teams, meanwhile, will be playing in the Region 4-AAA tournament this week.

The Cavaliers are the number two seed, and they won’t have to play until the semifinals on Friday.

The Lady Cavaliers are the number three seed, and their first game will be on Wednesday at 4 p.m. against the winner of a game between Rockmart and Haralson County.
