UNION — Due to inclement weather, the opening of Waffle House in Union has been moved to Monday, Feb. 17.

Despite snowy weather on Tuesday, Waffle House employees participated in a “boot camp” training event at which employees practiced preparing food and serving customers with a smile and a hearty welcome. Invited guests ordered food from the restaurant’s special “boot camp menu,” and servers went through all the steps learned in training, including taking play money and making change for meals.

Waffle House will officially open at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, and it will be open 24 hours a day from that point on.

“We never close,” said Human Resources Specialist Tifanny Geter. “On a day like today, when the roads are bad, guess what — we’ll be open.”

Geter said she and the entire staff are excited about the opening of the Union location.

“I get a positive reaction everywhere I go,” she said. “I think people are excited for us to be here.”

Geter said the restaurant is still taking applications for employment.

“We have a great staff, but we are still looking for more,” she said. “We anticipate this being a very busy store.”

Those who are interested can apply at the store. Geter said she is looking for employees for all shifts, and hours must be flexible.
