It’s game day for the LaGrange College softball team.

The Panthers will open their season with a home doubleheader against Berry College today, with the first game set for 3 p.m.

The Panthers went 20-22 in 2013, and they finished third in the USA South tournament.

The Panthers, who were picked to finish sixth in the USA South in a preseason poll, will have three all-conference players returning this season.

Senior Courtney Beshel hit .333 last season with four home runs and 20 RBIs.

Junior Danielle Newbern hit .345 with two home runs, 10 doubles and a team-high 30 RBIs, and she also led the team with 16 stolen bases.

Sophomore Kalin Oglesby hit .345 in her first season with the Panthers, and she had 14 RBIs.

The Panthers will play eight games before beginning USA South play on March 1 against Meredith.

BASKETBALL: The LaGrange College basketball teams will make up their games against Huntingdon on Sunday.

The two teams were supposed to play last week, but the games were postponed because of the winter storm.

The women’s game will be at 3 p.m., with the men’s game to follow at 5 p.m.

The LaGrange College men’s team is 14-9 overall, and it is tied for second in the USA South with an 8-4 record.

The LaGrange women’s team, meanwhile, is also 14-9 overall, and it is 8-6 in the conference.

It will be the regular-season finale for both teams.
