Steven Gearhart, 29, of LaGrange was arrested Saturday afternoon at the Commerce Square apartments on drug charges following an alleged attempt to flee from police during a traffic stop.
According to a LaGrange police report, police made contact with Gearhart while patrolling the area of Youngs Mill Road at Lafayette Court. Due to Gearhart having an active felony warrant for methamphetamine possession, police initiated a traffic stop.
According to the report, Gearhart allegedly accelerated in an attempt to flee police. The report states Gearhart allegedly started throwing bags of suspected crystal meth out of the vehicle into the road, one of which hit the hood of the patrol car.
Gearhart abruptly turned into the Commerce Square apartments where the officer gave verbal commands to show his hands. According to the report, Gearhart wouldn’t abide and was allegedly moving around in his car. Police used forced to remove Gearhart out of the car where he laid on the ground and was searched.
Nothing was found on his person, but numerous pieces of crystal meth were found in the roadway.
Gearhart was arrested and is facing charges with possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute, obstruction and fleeing and eluding.
