It was all about the linemen on Thursday.
LaGrange High was one of nine schools participating in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Lineman Challenge at Callaway Stadium.
Schools had the option of entering as many as three teams, and LaGrange had two teams competing, and they both fared well.
The first LaGrange team finished fifth out 18 teams, and the second LaGrange team was seventh.
The teams competed in eight events before a lunch break.
The day was completed with a tire-pull competition after the teams were seeded based on their performance in the previous eight events.
LaGrange’s first team, which included many of the players who’ll be starting on the offensive and defensive lines this coming season, had its best result in the medicine-ball throw where it finished in first place.
LaGrange finished third in the bucket challenge and in the sled push, it was fourth in the tire flip, and it was fifth in the bench press.
LaGrange’s second team, meanwhile, had its best result in the weight-lifting event, finishing in second place, just behind Troup.
LaGrange also finished second in the obstacle-course event, and it was sixth in the farmer’s walk.
The lineman challenge was part of a busy week for LaGrange’s football players.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, LaGrange took part in an NFL camp at Callaway Stadium, and the players are also continuing to participate in the school’s summer conditioning program.
LaGrange will continue its summer program through the rest of this month before taking some time off in July.
The Georgia High School Association mandates that teams can’t hold organized activities during the week of July 4th, so LaGrange will take that week off.
The team will get back at it the following week, and on July 25, teams can hold their first official practices, and the first full-contact practices can be held on Aug. 1.
LaGrange, which missed the playoffs last year for the first time since 1999, is heading into its first season under new head coach Dialleo Burks.
LaGrange visits Newnan for a preseason game on Aug. 15 before beginning the season on Aug. 22 against Callaway.
