Updated: Man fatally shot in West Point, police search for suspect

West Point Police are searching for a suspect believed to have shot and killed a man Saturday night at West Point Spirits and Wine in the 400 block of 3rd avenue.

Latrell Harper, 22, of Lanett and Willis Bulger, 29, of Lanett were involved in a physical confrontation when Harper allegedly pulled a gun and shot and killed Bulger, according to reports.

Aboutt 10:09 p.m., two females entered the West Point Police Department to report the shooting.

According to their statements, Harper fled the scene on foot across the state line into Lanett, Alabama.

Bulger was taken from the scene in a red convertible, which traveled south of Highway 29 in Lanett as well. He was taken to the George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley, Alabama, where he later died from his injuries, a Chamber County Coroner report stated.

Police are currently searching for Harper.

Harper is a black male, 5 feet 6 inches tall and approximately 130 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He is believed to be in the West Point/Lanett area. Harper is considered to be armed and dangerous, according to police.
