A Lanett, Alabama, man faces multiple charges, including vehicular homicide, in the hit-and-run death of a pedestrian of Interstate 85 early Monday morning.

Caderrickton Barnes, 46, has been charged by Georgia State Patrol with first degree vehicular homicide, hit and run/leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident with death, tampering with evidence and driving on a suspended license, according to a release by GSP. Barnes turned himself in to West Point Police Monday night and has been taken to the Harris County Jail.

The victim was found when authorities responded to a call of a tree partially blocking the interstate around 2:30 a.m. The victim had been hit on I-85 in Harris County between mile markers 1 and 2 in the northbound lane.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, evidence at the scene indicated the suspected vehicle was a Pontiac Grand Prix between the model years 1997 and 2003. Authorities located the suspected vehicle, a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix, in Lanett.

The victim has not yet been identified. The body was taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy and identification.
