Sorority hosts cook off for community service projects, scholarships
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Theta Xi Omega chapter hosts a couples cook-off to raise fund for community service projects and annual scholarships. The scholarships are awarded to rising freshman at collegiate-level institutions of Coweta, Harris, Meriwether and Troup counties. The cook-off will take place at Lafayette Square in LaGrange on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person, and ages under 3 are free. Each couple will be judged via ballot by those attending the cook-off. The winning couple will be awarded a prize of $75 based on the results of the votes cast.
Raffle to benefit Harmony House
Highland Country Club hosts Flamingos in Paradise Reverse Raffle at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, a fundraiser benefiting Harmony House Domestic Violence Shelter, Inc. featuring music and hors d’oeuvres. There is a one in 300 chances to win $5,000. Cost is $100 per raffle ticket. Each ticket purchased will admit two people. Limited tickets available. Advance purchase only. Ice Cream Crankin’ to benefit Emmaus House
Emmaus Women’s Shelter hosts Miss Emma’s Ice Cream Crankin’ at 2 p.m. Sunday on Lafayette Square in downtown LaGrange. The shelter is a Christ-centered program that exists to provide assistance to homeless women and children in the area. Local vendors and members of the community bring their wares, with a focus on homemade ice cream. The cost for an individual pass is $5 and a family pass is $20. For kids, there is a Little Miss Ice Cream Beauty Contest and a Little Mister Ice Cream Cutest Contest with the cost of $10 per entry. Golf tournament to benefit March of Dimes
The March of Dimes / Diverse Power Golf Tournament will be held Sept. 12 at The Fields Golf Club. Lunch provided by Longhorn will be served at noon and the shotgun start is at 1:30 p.m. This is a four-person scramble. West Point Lake Coalition raffle to funds buoy lights
The West Point Lake Coalition is selling raffle tickets to raise funds to maintain, replace and possibly add more solar-powered buoy lights to the lake throughout the year. The grand prize is $1,000 worth of Shell gas cards, with a second prize of $500 worth of gas cards and a third prize of gas cards totaling $250.
