OMAHA, Neb. — A LaGrange High School student is among those who received a West Education Foundation scholarship from West Corporation, parent company of InterCall in West Point, the group announced on Aug. 4.
LaGrange High School student Michael Coffman, who plans to study business administration at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, was one of the recipients selected from a national pool of applicants. The students awarded scholarships will receive between $1,000 to $3,000 which will be disbursed through Scholarship America, a non-profit student aid and support organization.
West and its subsidiary and affiliate companies are awarding 27 new scholarships totaling $50,000 this year to the children of employees throughout the United States for programs at accredited colleges or vocational institutions.
Students were evaluated based on academic achievement, leadership abilities, and academic and community involvement. Factors such as academic honors, work experience, and personal goal statements were also considered.
“We take pride in developing our employees into strong leaders,” said Connie Trogdon, Senior Vice President of Enterprise Compensation and Benefits at West. “We are equally proud to support the family members of our employees who are working to improve themselves and their communities through higher education.”
