In July, West Georgia STAR sponsored two students to be able to attend the Georgia Association of Housing and Redevelopment Youth Conference.

The conference was held in Athens with the theme “Call to Duty.” This represents teens called to step up to help with today’s challenges facing communities across the state.

DaeJarian Gray and Tristan Ware were exposed to several leadership building skills, teamwork activities and learning opportunities at the University of Georgia. During this conference they also toured the campus to get a small taste of college life and seeing the importance of getting a good education.

Also during this conference, Tristan won the conference spelling bee. He competed against over 20 students from across the state.

“He outlasted them all,” said Debra Black of LaGrange Housing Authority. “We are so proud of him for this great accomplishment and representing West Georgia STAR to the highest standard.”
