A fire at a North Hampton Drive home shortly after noon Friday caused very extensive damage, according to Troup County Fire Lt. Roy Cadenhead.
The call was made to Troup County 911 at about 12:11 p.m. where the caller indicated that fire had started in a bedroom at the home. When fire officials arrived on the scene everyone was out of the house located in the 100 block of North Hampton Drive.
Brandi Williamson, one of the five occupants inside the home at the time of the fire, said she was in her bedroom watching TV when she smelled smoke coming from the next room, the smoke and flames soon began to spread quickly and she escorted everyone out of the home. Williamson suspects the fire was caused from electrical wiring inside the room.
The home sustained major heat and water damage, said Cadenhead, and the fire had become contained in one room in the attic.
Fire officials still were investigating and the cause of the fire had not been determined at this time.
