Officials have not yet confirmed the identity of a person killed in a wreck Thursday morning on Interstate 85.
Georgia State Patrol Sgt. Maurice Raines said the investigation was in a “holding pattern” until the identity of the driver who died was confirmed. An official with the GSP public information office said they are awaiting crime lab results to confirm the identity.
According to Tracey Watson of the Georgia Department of Public Safety public information office, two tractor trailers were northbound on I-85 in the right lane, when one of the trucks hit the other in the rear. After impact the truck in the rear caught fire and its driver died at the scene.
At the scene, the cab of the truck in the rear appeared crushed underneath the trailer of the truck in front of it.
The wreck was reported to 911 officials at 6:21 a.m. and left both nothbound lanes between Hamilton Road and Lafayette Parkway closed until about 1:45 p.m. One lane of traffic was then opened.
The driver of the tractor-trailer that was in front, identified as Adrian Dejuan Tillman, 41, of High Point, N.C., was injured and transported to West Georgia Medical Center. Hospital officials said he was treated and released Thursday.
