The LaGrange Symphony Orchestra will wrap up the first half of its 25th anniversary season on Tuesday with hometown talent.

LaGrange native and well known opera singer, David Malis, is set to perform with the LSO at Callaway Auditorium. Malis, along with Russian classical pianist, Yakov Kasman, will accompany the orchestra in “Celebrating Joys of Spring.”

“It’s important to us because one of the main focuses of our anniversary celebration was to spotlight local artists or artists that had some type of local connection,” explained LSO Executive Director, Dave Marler. “Having world class talent, like David Malis, come back to LaGrange, I think speaks to the quality of our orchestra.”

Marler, who is in his 7th season with the LSO also said to celebrate 25 years as an orchestra in a town the size of LaGrange is remarkable. The LSO has gone from being an all volunteer organization, to one with a staff. Unlike many other orchestra’s who have folded in towns across the country, Marler said the LSO stays on budget and is in a good position to grow in the future.

“We’re proud of the fact that we’ve been here for 25 years,” he said. “The LaGrange Symphony Orchestra plays an important role in the economic development of the community. For communities our size, it’s rare to have the quality of orchestra like we have. It’s only though the support of our local patrons and corporate partners, that we’re able to do that. We feel that we’re an important part of the fabric of the community and their support helps us to maintain that status.”

In fact, Marler said they’ve already booked some big performers for next season, which will begin in October. That list includes: LaGrange native and vocalist, Emily Levin, and her husband Randall, plus Grammy award winning violinist and composer, Mark O’Connor.

But Marler hopes the community will also come out to see the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra wrap up the 2013-2014 season Tuesday night.

“They’ll see two musicians that have performed around the world,” said Marler. “They can see these great performers for a fraction of what they would pay anywhere else to see it. And they can support the LSO. It will allow us to continue to grow and continue to provide memorable moments of music.”

To buy tickets for the “Celebrating Joys of Spring” concert, you can call 706-882-0662 or go to the LSO office in the SunTrust Bank off Church Street. You can also buy them at the LaGrange College Callaway Auditorium box office Tuesday night. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m.
