The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is adding one more sport to it’s outreach program.

The local chapter of FCA will host it’s first ever fishing tournament on Saturday out at West Point Lake. The group will launch from the Yellow Jacket boat ramp on Cameron Mill Road. The fundraiser will support FCA.

“All the monies we raise will stay here, in our community. It won’t go to a national office,” said FCA Area Representative, Todd Pruitt. “It will benefit our kids, coaches, and fund our resources within Troup, Meriwether, and Pike counties.”

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization ministers to coaches and players within middle and high schools, private schools, colleges and universities, plus members of pro sports teams, all over the world. Pruitt said FCA provides devotionals and bible studies for athletes free of charge.

“We teach the gospel of Christ to athletes,” explained Pruitt. “We send kids to camps for free. We send coaches to retreats for free. We want to make a positive impact and grow character within athletes. It’s the three dimensional approach: physical, mental, and their heart.”

Right now, Pruitt said they have participants coming in from Mississippi, Alabama, and South Carolina, plus right here at home. And they have room for more.

“We appreciate anything we get, because it’s a blessing. We thank all of our sponsors who are supporting the event,” said Pruitt.

The FCA fishing tournament will feature a guaranteed first place prize of $1,300 dollars, plus awards up to seventh place. They will also have a “Big Fish Pot” for people who donate money. The person will the biggest fish will win the prize.

The registration fee for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes fishing tournament is $100 per boat. You can register on Saturday. The group will launch at safe light from the Yellow Jacket boat ramp; weigh in will be at the same spot at 3 p.m.
