School’s out for summer, but three organizations want to make sure area youths have a safe, fun, positive, and educational vacation.
Girl Power and Emerging Women, along with the 16 Ways Foundation and the Elijah Kelley Foundation, also known as the “Trifecta,”are kicking things off on June 13th by hosting the “Friday Night Lights” event in Lafayette Square in LaGrange. The festival will not only have food, games, and entertainment, but showcase a variety of services and clubs in the community for area youths to join, like GPEW, 16 Ways, and the Elijah Kelley Foundations.
“They can learn about everything that we do,” explained Denise Mosley, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Girl Power and Emerging Women. “The community will know, see, touch, and feel what we [the three organizations] are doing and understand we mean what we say. And we have a passion for youth in our community…. and we wanted to express that in a big way.”
Mosley said the event will have a little something for everyone. There will be music, performances by a local marching band and teen dance groups, along with a D.J. In addition to games and giveaways, there will be tables set up around the square promoting a variety of schools, youth programs, and services aimed at helping area children find a positive outlet for their unique skill sets and abilities.
“If there is any need, dream, aspiration …. there’s an outlet. There are resources,” said Mosley. ” If you need help with self esteem or bullying …. we’re a finger tip away, on your key pad and computer, or just a phone call away. We want kids and parents to know we’re here.”
Mosley said the program is a chance for all three organizations to come together as a united front for youths locally and globally. There will also be an opportunity for children and their parents to learn about more events and camps through out the summer. Mosley also said the event will be emceed by a well known celebrity, whose identity is being kept a secret for now.
Friday Night Lights will be from 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm. June 13th on Lafayette Square. The event is free and open to the public. For more information contact Girl Power and Emerging Women at 706-882-0950.
