Retired THS teacher donates $2,000 for animal shelter
A retired Troup High School teacher on Friday donated $2,000 to the LaGrange-Troup County Humane Society.
Margarette Julian last year donated $1,000, and this year decided to double her donation. The former teacher said she chose to donate to her favorite charity because she is a cat lover and hopes her efforts will inspire others to donate.
“Part of what I consider love to be is a soft little paw that embraces my face during the night, that’s my little kitty,” Julian said. “… They just bring me so much comfort.”
LaGrange-Troup County Humane Society administrative assistant Marsha Schubert said Julian’s donation last year went to fund cat litter for the animals housed at Holland M. Ware Animal Shelter. She said with this year’s donation from Julian, she hopes to invest in new housing for the cats at the shelter.
Schubert said the shelter gets donations of more than $1,000 from philanthropists and businesses, but it’s unusual for an individual like Julian to contribute that kind of money. However, Schubert said it’s “most definitely” welcome.
“I always say do what your heart tells you,” Julian said.
