The public is invited to view the annual blooming of the Shoals Spider Lilies in Flat Shoals Creek in Harris County.
The property will be open this weekend, today to Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
The lilies are blooming much later than usual this year due to the long cold winter.
The Shoals Spider Lily (Hymenocallis coronaria) is a threatened plant species related to the Amaryllis. It is found in only three states: Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina. They are called Cahaba lilies in Alabama. Georgia has only the large populations of the plant.
Directions: from exit 2 on Interstate 85, go east on Ga. 18 for 1/4 mile and turn right on Ga. 103. There are signs saying that the road is closed, but drivers can still get to 4725, the last driveway on the left before the bridge that is under construction.
