Sorority awards scholarships to area grads

Theta Xi Zeta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. annually awards area graduates that are active in church, community and school activities, and maintained high academics during their high school years.

This year’s Troup County recipient is Zamoria “Morii” Simpson, a graduate of Callaway High School, where she has maintained a 4.05 GPA. At Callaway High School, Simpson has participated in many extracurricular activities as well as volunteering in her community.

She is the daughter of pastor Marlin and Zanthia Simpson. She plans on majoring in criminal justice to secure her degree in a field of law.

This year’s West Point- and Lanett, Alabama,-area recipient is Zhayera Coty, a graduate of Lanett High School, where she was active in various activities and volunteers at Golden Living Center in Lanett.

She is active in her church, has maintained a 2.90 GPA and plans on entering Southern Union State Community College, where she plans on becoming a radiology technician.

Coty believes that education is the key to success and will try to connect her passion for education with her desire to help others. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terrence Price.
