Speaking about the September Concert taking place tomorrow night, Dr. Christine Price of the LaGrange International Friendship Exchange (LIFE), says that attendees will “leave blessed with the many talents.”

Margaret Ross, one of the event’s coordinators answers her sentiments, “it brings a lot of love and unity to the community.”

The event is part of an international effort to build peace and unity in the wake of the tragic events of 9/11. The event serves as a memorial to those who died during that tragic day as well as locals who have given their lives during the subsequent wars.

Marjorie Champion Salamone, a 9/11 victim in the Pentagon who grew up locally, will be remembered at the concert as well as another local, Sgt. Corey Spates, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2008. Sgt. Stefan Smith, a LaGrange High School graduate who was killed just this year in Afghanistan, will also be remembered.

This event is also dedicated to the memory of Ida Jones. “She was a stalwart volunteer and champion of good in this community,” says Ross.

While serving as a memorial, the event is also meant to bring unity and peace to the community. It’s “an hour of music for peace,” notes Ross. The event also celebrates the diversity of the community.

Music will be provided by a plethora of groups. Singing groups will include a Korean choir, the choir from the First Hispanic Church, Revelation, and the Lynch Lewis Family. The Red Hat Ladies will perform the “senior version” of “Jesus Loves Me.” Soloists will include Kevin Dunn, Matt Whitten and cellist Susannah Pavlovic.

Margaret Ross adds that LIFE is grateful to LaGrange College for providing facilities for the concert.

The concert will be held at 7 p.m Wednesday at Callaway Auditorium. The performance is free and open to the public. The concert is expected to last about an hour.
