The Troup County Sheriff’s Office made several arrests in a recent counterfeit check operation.
According to a report from the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, investigators arrested several people after an extensive investigation into the manufacturing and distributing of counterfeit checks. Investigators received a complaint from a local restaurant that they had been victimized by people passing counterfeit checks.
The complaint led investigators to arrest Michael Johnson, 50, and his son Adam Johnson, 27, both of Troup County. They were charged with forgery in the fourth degree.
The report said that as the investigation evolved, investigators charged Patricia D. Nixon, 44, and Walter Gaddy, 50, with possession of methamphetamine. Nixon also was charged with fraudulent check practices.
Additional charges and arrests of suspects were expected.
