Three newcomers will run for the Troup County Commission Chairman position.
Registering as Republicans were Patrick Crews of Cameron Mill Road and Frank Kirby of Mooty Bridge Road, and as a Democrat was Jerome Alford of Rosie Civers Road for the countywide elected position. Incumbent County Commission Chairman Ricky Wolfe is not running for a third term.
Incumbent and longtime District 5 County Commissioner Richard English Jr. will face opposition from Nathan Gaskin of Troup Street. Gaskin ran against English in 2010. Both are qualified as Democrats and will face off in the May 20 primary.
In the nonpartisan Board of Education race, only one seat is contested: the District 7 seat held by incumbent Alfred McNair of Greenwich Circle, challenged by Eric Cedek Davenport of Carver Street. Seats in Board of Education Districts 4 and 1, held respectively by Ted Alford and Allen Simpson, who both qualified for re-election, are unopposed.
