Area women in need of mammograms will be able to have the life-saving test free of charge.
The BelkGives on the Go mobile mammography center – a 39-foot-long, state-of-the-art screening center on wheels – will stop at Belk stores in LaGrange, Carrollton, Newnan and Norcross during the week of June 16. During the visit, women over the age of 40 with no breast concerns, who have not had a mammogram in the last 12 months and have a primary care physician are eligible for a free mammogram screening.
The mobile mammography center will be in front of the Belk store in LaGrange on June 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
According to Belk, all the screening exams will be performed by female mammography certified technologists with Charlotte Radiology. A board-certified radiologist specialized in breast imaging will interpret the mammogram. The confidential results will then be sent to the patient and her primary care physician.
After receiving their mammograms, women can also visit the intimate apparel area inside the store for a complimentary bra fitting.
Belk representatives said they launched the Belk on the Go mobile mammography center in 2013. In the first year alone, the unit performed more than 4,500 mammograms throughout the Southeast that resulted in 14 cancer diagnoses.
The mobile mammography center will only be able to schedule 32 women. To make an appointment, or for more information call 855-655-2662 or visit www.belk.com/pink.
