Warm and wet weather is in the forecast for Troup County after a day of record-setting heat

The mercury soared to 101 late Thursday afternoon at LaGrange-Callaway Airport, breaking the mark for the date of 99 set in 1980. The heat index made it feel 10 degrees hotter.

Today’s outlook calls for a high in the mid-90s and a low in the lower 70s with a 50 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon and evening.

The forecast for Saturday through Tuesday is for highs in the lower 90s, lows in the lower 70s and a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms each day.

Normal extremes for this time of year in LaGrange are 89 and 68.
