Troup gets breakthrough win

They’re on the board.
The Troup Lady Tigers, in just their second game of the season, blanked Sandy Creek 12-0 on Tuesday at home.
The Lady Tigers now stand at 1-1 overall, with both of those games coming against Region 5-AAAA opponents.
Troup got a strong performance from pitcher Emily Green, and she was backed up by an offense that did plenty of damage, with Alex Duncan providing the biggest highlight with a home run.
“The best part about it was they were driving the ball,“ Troup coach Blair Shimandle said. “It wasn’t fly balls, it wasn’t ground balls, it was line drive, line drive, line drive. Even the home run was a line drive. That was the biggest thing. As long as they’re hitting line drives, they’re going to be successful.”
Green showed little rust even though she just returned to the team after recovering from an injury.
“Emily just came back this week, and she practiced yesterday and pitched today,” Shimandle said. “She walked the first two and then settled down. She’s still got a little bit of work to do, but she hasn’t thrown in a month. The fact that she was able to come in and throw that well was big. I didn’t expect her to go as long as she did.”
The Lady Tigers scored single runs in the first and second innings, and after a scoreless third, they finished the game with 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth.
The game ended after the 12th run crossed the plate because of the run rule.
“Their pitcher was throwing strikes, she was hitting the corners, and we did a really good job hitting her,” Shimandle said.
Duncan, a senior third baseman, had a double in the first inning, and she hit a home run in the fourth inning.
Hayley Morris added two hits, including a double.
Hanna Lane contributed to the fourth-inning onslaught with a triple, Jordan Pike had an RBI single and also had a walk, Brandy Brown had a triple, Ashley Murphy had a base hit and a walk and Libby Wheeler had a single.
Troup will try to move above the .500 mark when it visits Carrollton on Thursday.
