Long-time rivals face off

The LaGrange Grangers are hoping to party like it’s 2004.
LaGrange and Newnan will renew their long-standing rivalry today, and the Grangers are trying to get a win in the series for the first time since 2004.
Newnan has won six consecutive games in the rivalry, including last year’s 24-21 victory.
Today’s game will be played at Callaway Stadium, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
Newnan is looking to bounce back from last week’s season-opening 52-21 loss to Marietta, while LaGrange is making its regular-season debut.
LaGrange beat Valley 34-0 last week in a preseason game.
This is a rivalry that dates back more than 100 years, and LaGrange head coach Donnie Branch said that, for a lot of Granger fans, there is no bigger game during the regular season.
“A lot of people view this as the biggest game of the year,” Branch said. “When I came here, they talked about Newnan and Griffin. Those were the games. I really like that we still play Newnan.”
Also today, the Lafayette Christian School football team will try to get its first win of the season when it travels to Dahlonega to play North Georgia Christian in an eight-man football game.
Lafayette opened its season with a 33-8 to Holy Spirit last week.
“We feel like it’s a good matchup for us,” Lafayette Christian head coach Nick Nehring said. “We have an opportunity to bounce back.”
Also today, the Dawson Street Christian School Wildcats will be on the road to face Grace Christian Academy.
