Cougars stay unbeaten

Heading into a key pair of region games this weekend, the Lafayette Christian School volleyball team netted a pair of home wins on Thursday to remain unbeaten.
After taking care of Cottage School 25-8, 25-4, Lafayette Christian (5-0) swept Grace Christian Academy 25-17, 25-11.
Lafayette Christian will be in Albany today to play Sherwood School, and it will be in Valdosta on Saturday to play Valwood.
Both matches will be against GISA Region 4-A foes.
“I’m glad we were able to get this tri-match in, to get some play under our belts,” Lafayette Christian head coach Rene Gomez said. “Hopefully (today) we’ll go on the road and play well, and then it’ll carry over to Saturday.”
Against Cottage School, Miranda Powell and Mary Mae Cole led the way.
Powell had five aces, two kills and three assists, and Cole had four aces and six kills.
Against Grace, Tori Shaw had nine assists and four aces, and Morgan Douglass had four kills, two aces and a key block in the second game.
The Callaway Lady Cavaliers made quick work of visiting Douglass on Thursday.
In a Region 4-AAA game, Callaway scored 15 runs in the second inning en route to a 23-0 victory.
The game lasted just three innings because of the run rule.
Callaway improved to 5-4 overall, and 2-2 in region play.
Senior Railey Waddell had four of Callaway’s 19 hits, and she had a pair of doubles, a triple, and two RBIs.
Keshonna Terrell had three hits, including a home run and a triple, and she knocked in three runs.
Brittany Mitchell also had three hits RBIs with two doubles and a triple, and she drove in three runs.
Kristy Daniel had two hits and three RBIs, and Harley Bonner also had two hits.
Hannah Hubbard, Emily Gresham, Kaison Echols, Kalea Johnson and Audrey Barrett also had hits.
Molly Hubbard pitched all three innings, and she didn’t allow a hit while striking out eight.
Also on Thursday, Troup fell to home-standing Columbus 8-2.
Alex Duncan provided a highlight for Troup with her third home run of the season, and Hayley Morris had a double to bring in Katelyn Thomas.
