Troup stays alive in tourney

It was a successful day of volleyball for the Troup Lady Tigers.
The Lady Tigers went 2-1 on Tuesday in the Area 3-AAAA tournament in Columbus, and they’re one of the last four teams standing.
Troup will try to stay alive in the tournament when it faces Fayette County today at Sandy Creek High School.
If the Lady Tigers win that match, they’ll finish no lower than third in the region, and they would take on either Columbus or Sandy Creek for the right to play for a region championship.
Troup got things started on Tuesday with a big win over rival LaGrange.
After winning the first game 25-17, the Lady Tigers clinched the victory with a 25-12 win.
After falling to Sandy Creek, Troup beat Banneker in a do-or-die match to advance.
Over the weekend, Troup’s ninth-grade team finished second in the silver bracket at the Harris County Invitational, and the junior-varsity team was fifth in the gold bracket.
Standout players for Troup’s ninth-grade team included middle hitter Lauren Sheets, and setters Madison Taylor and Haley Noles.
For the junior-varsity team, setter Bailey Lawson, outside hitter Sara Noles and defensive specialist Madison Murphy were standouts.
