The Troup Lady Tigers will bid farewell to another softball season today, and they’re hoping to go out on a winning note.

The Lady Tigers bring a 12-13 record into today’s home game against Shaw, and a victory would allow them to close the season with a .500 record.

Win or lose, Troup will finish fifth in Region 5-AAAA.

Today’s game also marks the swan song for a special group of seniors, third baseman Alex Duncan, first baseman Jordan Pike, and outfielder Kalah Mingo.

“I think the hardest thing is losing the three seniors on the team,” Troup head coach Blair Shimandle said. “That’s a huge loss right there.”

All three players have had terrific seasons.

Duncan came into Tuesday’s game against LaGrange hitting .604, and she also had six home runs and 25 RBIs, all team highs.

Duncan also leads the team with nine doubles, and she’s tied for the team lead with 25 runs scored.

Pike is hitting .404 with 10 RBIs, and Mingo is hitting .448, and she has driven in 21 runs.

Among the underclassmen, junior Hayley Morris has had a phenomenal season with a .508 batting average, and she is tied with Duncan with 25 runs scored.

Sophomore Libby Wheeler has also had a big year with a .438 average, and she has knocked in 20 runs.

Junior Ashley Murphy is hitting .364, and sophomore Hanna Lane has a .345 average.

Sophomore Emily Green, meanwhile, has handled most of the pitching duties for Troup, and she is 6-7.

Also today, LaGrange will wrap up its regular season with a key game against Carrollton.

LaGrange (19-8 overall) is 10-3 in Region 5-AAAA, and it will finish third or fourth in the region, depending on the outcome of today’s game at Carrollton.

Carrollton is 9-4 in the region, and it would force a tie for third place if it beats LaGrange, and it would come down to a tie-breaker for the third seed.

If LaGrange wins, it would be alone in third.

In the first meeting, LaGrange beat Carrollton 1-0 in eight innings, with Emily Anderson throwing the complete-game shutout.

Whether they finish third or fourth, the Lady Grangers have already qualified for the state playoffs that begin next week.
