The LaGrange Grangers are hoping they found some answers.

After dropping four straight games, the Grangers got a much-needed victory Friday night against the Troup Tigers.

It was a close game early in the third period, but the Grangers took control and went on to claim a 72-55 victory.

The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Grangers, and they’ll try to get a winning streak going when they visit the Carrollton Trojans tonight.

The Grangers (8-8 overall) are 2-4 in Region 5-AAAA, and today will mark the halfway point of their region schedule.

LaGrange begins the second half of the region schedule Friday against Shaw.

Against Troup, the Grangers got off to a fast start, taking a 12-2 lead in the first quarter.

LaGrange coach Mike Pauley put five juniors in the starting lineup, and they responded nicely, with Danterrious Bray hitting a couple of 3-pointers to help provide the early lead.

“I’m really pleased with the way the guys started,” Pauley said. “That’s five juniors, and they’re used to playing together, and they did a good job.”

The Tigers took a temporary lead in the second period, but the Grangers were up 33-28 at the half.

LaGrange outscored Troup 39-27 in the second half to pull away.

In today’s game, LaGrange takes on a Carrollton team that has lost two straight to fall to 3-2 in the region.

The Trojans won their first three region games, including a dramatic overtime victory over Troup, before losing to Alexander and Sandy Creek.

This is the first of two regular-season meetings between LaGrange and Carrollton.

The LaGrange Lady Grangers (5-11 overall) improved their region record to 2-4 with Friday’s 52-37 victory over Troup.

LaGrange’s lead was four points early in the fourth period, but it outscored Troup 17-6 over the final six minutes.

“Hopefully we can take this win and run with it,” LaGrange coach Jan Jones said.

The Lady Grangers have struggled in the second half of many of their games this season, so Jones was pleased to see them finish strong against Troup.

“The biggest thing was they came out and played in the second half,” Jones said.

LaGrange’s teams will be at home this weekend.

After hosting Shaw on Friday, LaGrange takes on Columbus on Saturday.
