It’s time to play soccer.
The boys’ and girls’ teams from Callaway and LaGrange will kick off their seasons today.
The LaGrange teams will both be at home against East Coweta, and the Callaway girls’ team will also be at home against Hardaway.
The Callaway boys’ team, meanwhile, will begin its season on the road against Harris County.
Callaway, LaGrange and Troup each had their regularly-scheduled season openers postponed earlier this week because of the winter weather.
The Lady Cavaliers, coming off a successful season that ended in the opening round of the state tournament, will face Hardaway at 5:30 p.m.
In a preseason game against Pacelli last week, Callaway lost 5-3.
Matt Leonard, who used to be the head coach of the boys’ team and was an assistant coach for the girls’ team last season, has taken over as the Lady Cavaliers’ head coach this season.
“We played everybody, and the girls looked pretty good as far as not having a lot of practice,” Leonard said. “It went pretty well, taking Pacelli to a 5-3 game. That’s not a bad game.”
The Cavaliers were supposed to play a home game against Langston Hughes today.
Langston Hughes will be unable to make the trip from Fairburn, though, so the Cavaliers were able to find a replacement game against Harris County.
The Cavaliers had a terrific 2013 season, finishing second in Region 4-AAA before losing a home playoff game to Pierce County.
LaGrange was supposed to play at East Coweta today, but the games have been moved to Callaway Stadium to take advantage of the artificial turf.
The girls’ game is set to begin at 6:30 p.m., with the boys’ game to follow.
Both LaGrange teams played preseason games last week against Newnan.
The Grangers won 4-0, and the Lady Grangers lost 3-0.
