Unfortunately for the Callaway Lady Cavaliers, history didn’t repeat itself.

A year ago, Callaway knocked off Central-Carroll in the semifinals of the Region 4-AAA tournament.

On Tuesday, those two teams met again in the tournament semifinals, and while the Lady Cavaliers hung tough the whole way, the outcome was different this time around.

A Central-Carroll team that has enjoyed a sensational season outlasted Callaway 63-53 to earn a spot against Chapel Hill in today’s region-championship game at 7 p.m.

Central-Carroll, the tournament’s number two seed, improved to 26-2 while beating Callaway for a third straight time.

Callaway (16-9), the number three seed, will play Jackson-Atlanta at 4 p.m. for the number three seed.

Jackson lost a close one to Chapel Hill on Tuesday.

Against Central-Carroll, the Lady Cavaliers found themselves in a 10-1 hole moments into the game, but they rallied to take the lead after the first quarter.

Callaway led by as many as eight points in the second period, but the Lady Lions were up by four at the half.

The Lady Lions led the entire second half, although the Lady Cavaliers remained within shouting distance most of the way.

“It was a hard-fought game all the way,” Callaway coach Deyano Martin said.

Tanesha Johnson paced the Lady Cavaliers with 21 points, and she made three 3-pointers.

Monica Jackson, despite spending much of the game on the bench in foul trouble, added 17 points and made two 3-pointers.

Zamari Hardnett chipped in with eight points.
