So far, so good for the Troup Tigers.

After opening the season with a 4-3 victory over Northgate on Tuesday, Troup improved to 2-0 with an 8-3 road win over Newnan on Wednesday.

Bo Halcomb got the start and pitched six innings, and C.J. Tatum pitched the seventh inning.

Halcomb gave up 10 hits, but he only walked one batter.

“One thing we were pleased with was the command,” Troup coach Craig Garner said. “We’re preaching attacking hitters.”

The Tigers jumped out to a five-run lead through four innings, and Garner said “at that point, we were trying to attack hitters.”

Winston Turner and Tyler Kemp each had two hits for Troup, and Tatum, Miles Cameron, Brandon Watts and Tyler Bunn each had one hit.

Bunn had a two-run double in the seventh inning after Newnan had climbed within two runs.

“The younger guys are starting to mature, starting to grow up a little bit,” Garner said.

Troup will try to make it three in a row when it hosts Central-Phenix City at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
