The LaGrange College baseball team is on the board.
After dropping their first four games, the Panthers beat Bates 9-2 on Thursday at home to get their first win.
It was also the first win for LaGrange College’s first-year head coach, David Kelton.
The Panthers charged to a 3-0 lead after the first inning, and they didn’t look back.
The Panthers finished with 14 hits, and Zach Tatham and Daniel Garrett combined to get the job done on the mound.
Former Troup Tiger Jim Reed had a pair of hits and walked twice from the leadoff position, and he also drove in a run.
Jake Hipple had three hits and a walk, Keith Sims had two hits with a pair of runs scored, and Chad Pigg had two hits and two RBIs.
James Maxwell and Adam Terrinoni each had a hit and an RBI, and Cain Sauls had a hit and two RBIs.
Tatham started and pitched five innings, and he gave up two runs on four hits, and Garrett threw four scoreless innings.
LaGrange College and Bates will play a doubleheader on Saturday, with the first game set to begin at 2 p.m.
