After a week off, the Callaway High baseball team will get back at it today.

The Cavaliers, who improved to 3-1 with a 7-4 win over the Shaw Raiders on March 3, will return to the field today for a home game against Luella.

Callaway will also play Sandy Creek on Wednesday before kicking off its Region 4-AAA schedule on Friday against Jackson

The Cavaliers have overcome some injury issues early in the season.

Senior outfielder Jaylen Colton has possibly been lost for the season with a thumb injury, and Kevin Craft, expected to be a key member of the lineup and the pitching staff, has been dealing with a back issue.

The Cavaliers have played well enough to win three of their first four games, though, and head coach Dusty Hubbard said he has been extremely encouraged by the attitude of the players.

“Win, lose or draw, if you give me 15 guys that will go to battle, I like my chances, and I like coaching these kids,” Hubbard said. “We have 15 good guys that put the team first.”

Wednesday’s game against Sandy Creek will also be at home, as will Friday’s region game against Douglass.

Callaway finished second in the region a year ago and won a series in the state tournament before falling in the second round.

Troup will also be on the field today as it looks to bounce back from Friday’s 10-0 loss to East Coweta.

The Tigers are 3-4 as they continue to tune up for their Region 5-AAAA opener next week.

Troup will have two games this week, including today’s home game against the Heard County Braves.

On Wednesday, Troup will be on the road against Auburn.

The Tigers will then be off until March 21 when they host Alexander in their first region game.

LaGrange High’s baseball team will also play two games this week as it looks ahead to next week’s Region 5-AAAA opener.

The Grangers (3-6) will visit Central-Carroll today, and they’ll be back home on Tuesday to face Brookstone.

LaGrange has one more non-region game with Newnan on March 17, and it will begin its region schedule on March 21 at Shaw.
