The LaGrange Lady Grangers hung tough with a team that is sitting atop the state rankings in Class A.
Facing First Presbyterian on Saturday at Callaway Stadium, LaGrange put up a fight on the way to a 4-1 loss.
“It’s good to play these games in the middle of the season,” LaGrange coach Rusty Cook said. “It helps us get ready hopefully for the playoffs.”
Although First Presbyterian scored four goals, Cook felt his defense put up a strong effort.
“Our defense played really good. Sarah Kate (Doerr) has been playing great in goal for us,” Cook said. “She’s doing a great job in goal for us this year.”
Cook also said freshman Hannah Asbell had a nice game on defense.
“She’s really stepped up in the last few games on defense and taken on a leadership role for us,” Cook said.
The Lady Garngers didn’t have many opportunities on offense, but they did notch a second-half goal to avoid the shutout.
LaGrange was down 4-0 when Lauren Yates slipped the ball past the First Presbyterian goal keeper with 9:19 left in the game.
LaGrange will look to improve on its 1-2 Region 5-AAAA record when it visits Fayette County on Tuesday.
